Coordinates and directs the legal affairs of various units including Accident & Health and/or Travel.  Also with focus on the following products: Vehicle service contrats, GAP, Ancillary products and Lender placed products. Provides legal counsel and guidance on the ordinary and special activities of the various units and products. Ensures maximum protection of the unit rights, utilizing broad familiarity with most legal disciplines. Ensures coordination and communication with the Legal Department that results in the appropriate attorneys’ or subject matter experts’ involvement in the appropriate matters. Participates in the executive management policy deliberations and decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for counseling and advising the Deputy General Counsel, Arch Insurance Group and the executive team of the assigned unit and/or product on all legal matters and business considerations for the group.
  • Provides strategic direction and guidance in all regulatory matters, which affect  business activities.
  • Provides legal counsel, business advice, review legal aspects of and review, draft and negotiate documents in connection with insurance and insurance related products.. Work in partnership with the company's operational areas, including, underwriting, reinsurance, marketing, claims, finance, tax, technology and human resources.
  • Interacts positively and professionally with all levels of management, including senior management, agents, brokers, customers, and outside agencies.
  • Operates as a results-oriented executive with a track record of gaining management credibility and influencing business results.
  • Operates as a business partner with the business team, not just a legal adviser, by working together with the business team to successfully achieve the business goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of independent judgment.
  • Must be willing to take unpopular positions.  

Qualifications

Other Requirements: Incumbent would be expected to have a law degree and be in good standing in the Bar in at least one of the fifty states and a minimum of 3 to 7 years experience in the A&H and/or Travel and the products stated above. Strong insurance industry knowledge would be required.
