Overview

The Underwriting Support Specialist I provides clerical support to the Field Underwriting team by managing the reception desk, fielding incoming calls, assisting with loan file registration, and performing routine administrative tasks. The incumbent works under clearly defined procedures and processes with regular supervision on most work assignments.

Responsibilities

Provides reception coverage and greets, assists, and directs guests and vendors.

 

Operates switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls. Retrieves voicemail and updates outgoing voicemail greeting.

 

Provides customer service by directing callers/clients to the appropriate staff member and responding to basic inquiries in a timely manner within assigned level of authority.

 

Provides clerical support such as distributing manual updates, opening and distributing mail, filing, ordering supplies, etc.

 

Provides administrative assistance to Field Underwriting staff such as sending approval, pending, and decline letters. Orders credit reports, provides status updates, uploads appraisals, and scans hard copy loan files/documents.

 

Prints and distributes all required underwriting documents and reports. Reviews Loan Authority report on a regular basis to ensure second signature on loans requiring it.

 

Maintains filing system in accordance with current Arch MI procedures.

 

Assists Underwriting Support staff with registering and processing basic loan files as needed, following procedures for file registration.

 

Adheres to performance standards for productivity, quality, turnaround time, and data accuracy.

 

 

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills:

 

Basic knowledge of mortgage industry.

 

Ability to follow instructions, prioritize workload, and perform basic clerical and administrative tasks.

 

Proficient in telephone switchboard console operation.

 

Strong accuracy and attention to detail.

 

Strong customer service orientation.

 

Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with customers and visitors in a professional, concise, and courteous manner.

 

Basic proficiency with MS Office and Underwriting system applications.

 

Education & Experience:

 

Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a high school diploma/GED plus 1-2 years job-related experience.
