Join the Arch LMI operations team as Senior Underwriting Manager and be instrumental in supporting and delivering quality underwriting for our growing business.


Arch LMI is actively seeking a Senior Underwriting Manager who will provide support and input in establishing strategies to achieve company growth, profitability and risk quality objectives in the credit underwriting space. The successful individual will work closely with the business locally as well as customers, to successfully develop, monitor and enhance the operational processes and efficiencies of underwriting.


The ideal candidate will have previously worked in financial underwriting, preferably within a credit or lending institution. Successful applicants will have a robust knowledge of residential mortgage loan products in Australia, strong understanding of mortgage loan origination, underwriting and servicing practices, knowledge and experience in credit risk mitigation techniques, solid understanding of loan level mortgage insurance products, and understanding of pre-transaction and post-underwriting due diligence and audit standards.


Success in this role will require you to be comfortable working in a matrixed business environment and have knowledge and skills typically acquired through an undergraduate degree in business, economics or finance and 7 years related experience, or a Graduate degree with related experience.


Specifically, the Senior Underwriting Manager will:

  • Develop, monitors and enhances underwriting operational processes and efficiencies as needed.
  • Provide input into the evaluation and approval of new guidelines/policies and lender exception requests
  • Manage the day-today operational development, monitoring and enhancement of the delegated underwriting authority (DUA) processes and efficiencies
  • Report underwriting performance to the Chief Operating Officer (COO)
  • Provide underwriting support to the negotiation of the Master Policy with Lenders.  


Required Experience and qualifications:

  • A background in credit or related financial industry is preferred
  • Broad understanding of credit underwriting regulation and best practices
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, economics or finance (or equivalent in experience) with 7+ years or related experience.

The Senior Underwriting Manager reports directly to the local Chief Operating Officer with accountability for management of an underwriting team.
