Responsibilities

The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented, creative, and motivated Senior Underwriter to join our growing team. The Senior Underwriter will assist in underwriting a book of treaty business in the property reinsurance marketplace.  The position will target complex and structured products requiring the utilization of actuarial practices. In addition to having strong primary multi-line P&C experience with a focus in underwriting, the ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of actuarial modeling techniques. This position will report directly to the Chief Agent and Chief Underwriting Officer of Arch Reinsurance Canada and will require 10-20% travel.  

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain client and broker relationships 
  • Perform underwriting audits of client files
  • Market to senior level clients and brokers 
  • Evaluate client financial objectives
  • Perform in-depth statistical analyses
  • Assess and analyze specific reinsurance treaties (Aggregate, per risk, structured, multi-year and others) with actuarial techniques
  • Negotiate contracts and assure profitability of business written
  • Report to the steering committee at underwriting meetings
  • Collaborate to develop and drive change within the group
  • Frequent contact with staff and technical support unit, to clarify and obtain information

Required Education/Experience 

  • College or university degree in mathematics or actuarial science strongly preferred 
  • 10 to 15 years’ experience in property and casualty reinsurance
