Overview

The Position

 

The VP, Reinsurer Relations is responsible for developing and expanding relationships with reinsurance brokers and reinsurers in support of Arch Capital’s Managing General Underwriting (MGU) and Mortgage Risk Transfer (MRT) businesses. In addition to having familiarity with the reinsurance industry, the ideal candidate will have mortgage insurance and structured finance experience.  Excellent interpersonal skills, the capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and demonstrated transaction management/negotiation skills are a must.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively across various business functions (Structured Underwriting, Actuarial, Finance, etc.) acting as the central contact person for domestic and international reinsurance clients and brokers; he/she is responsible for the marketing of structured mortgage insurance products and ongoing relationship management of clients and brokers.
  • Establish and develop relationships with key counterparts at the insurance brokers, reinsurers and the GSEs and creates opportunities to foster idea generation, strategic business discussion, provide risk management, credit structuring, industry observations and other matters of strategic importance.
  • Develop and execute on marketing strategies that explain the value added services these businesses offer.
  • Stay current on industry pricing in private MBS, GSE and MI Credit Risk Transfer markets.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of residential loan markets, GSE credit risk transfer programs and the reinsurance market.
  • Deep understanding of mortgage credit risk, including prepayment and loan default drivers.
  • Developed expertise and success in soliciting, selling and structuring a wide range of complex transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully working in a transaction-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in transaction management and negotiation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of related transactions (private MBS, GSE and MI Credit Risk Transfer) in the insurance and fixed income markets. Ability to independently assess business risk, taking into consideration capital structures and industry nuances as applicable
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly developed presentation, oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed negotiation skills and willingness to use a transparent approach with an emphasis on mutually beneficial outcomes. Approach impasses with diligent efforts at creative solutions.
  • Strong ability to influence others through persuasion and presentation of thoughts and ideas to gain commitment and agreement for proposed ideas and solutions.
  • Strong, dynamic interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external contacts.

Education:

A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Finance, Math, Statistics or Economics required and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in mortgage insurance, corporate banking, investment banking or finance required.

 

This position is located in Raleigh, North Carolina and reports directly to the SVP, Alternative Markets. Travel of up to 35% required as needed.
