Responsibilities

The Position

The Director, Business Continuity Management is responsible for the administration and operation of Arch Capital Services Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.  This position will have responsibility to lead and oversee all IT organization-wide disaster recovery and business continuity risk management efforts.  Manage the implementation and day-to-day functions related to creating Business Continuity Plans and Procedures, while also managing Disaster Recovery operations.  This role is responsible for interfacing with senior management and regulatory auditors.  The Director of BCM will assist with the design and implementation of our enterprise wide resilience and IT Disaster Recovery programs, including policies, maturity models, methodologies, sourcing strategies, plans, metrics and scorecards for all components of the program.  In addition, this role will be required to participate as a technical project manager responsible for managing infrastructure technology projects.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • BCP/DRP:
    • Ensures disaster recovery plans, processes, and roles are in place across IT to ensure the integrity and availability of our companies data, solutions, services and technologies.  Responsible for implementing, monitoring, and reporting on the enterprise IT disaster recovery posture that ensures our resiliency for IT systems and services following the occurrence of an IT outage or major disasters that result in the partial or complete disruption of business operations.
    • The candidate will ensure disaster recovery and resumption plans for the critical processes and systems, which are core to the organizations continued business operations. Ensures all business continuance procedures and plans are tested, documented and monitored and provide rapid response and recovery to system events. Establishes service level recovery standards and agreements internally and with vendors.
    • With minimal supervision, coordinate and facilitate all business continuity planning activities.  The person who fills this position is expected to interact with the critical business units and support groups for the purpose of planning, directing, controlling, and maintaining the contingency planning effort.
  • Project Management:
    • Create and maintain a detailed project schedule
    • Plan meetings, publish minutes, and follow-up on action items
    • Managing scope, schedule, resource changes during projects
    • Use internal ticketing systems to track and document progress
    • Issue and risks management, tracking and reporting
    • Coordinate changes with cross-functional business teams, including developers, site reliability engineers and network/system engineers
    • Monitor and report progress, prepare status reports & presentations for senior management
    • Create functional strategies and specific objectives driving resiliency

    • Help develop budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional expectations in our disaster recovery plans

 

Qualifications

Desired Skills

  • Experience in 3 or more of the following BCP framework components: Business Resumption Planning, Crisis preferred

  • Management Planning, Incident Response Planning, Disaster Recovery Planning, Plan Exercising/Testing,

  • Experience in performing BC Audits or Experience in managing and coordinating the response to a major, unplanned disruptive event that required activation of the BC/DR/Incident or Crisis Management Plans.

  • Knowledge and experience in performing assessments aligned with the best practices

  • Ability to work independently, effectively manage competing demands and priorities

  • Familiarity with Governance, Risk and Compliance as it applies to BCDR planning

  • Demonstrate the ability to think strategically and drive tactical execution

  • Good analytical and problem solving skills

  • Strong documentation skills, including the ability to create detailed and well organized summaries of risk assessment findings that can be easily understood by stakeholders 

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a cross-functional team

  • Ability to build positive relationships across multiple stakeholders including senior leadership team and department heads

  • Possess a good understanding of appropriate leading-edge technologies

  • Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills

Required Education/Experience 

  • Relevant Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Risk or Audit certifications preferred (MBCP, CBCP, ABCP, CRISC, CISA)
  • Deep knowledge of disaster recovery and business resumption processes and practices
  • 10+ years managerial experience, preferably within disaster recovery programs either establishing or running an IT Disaster
  • Proven ability to work under stressful conditions, such as a business related crises
  • Proven experience managing a data center move and/or consolidation program
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Technical breadth and depth in IT systems overall
  • Ability to work and drive delivery in virtual, disparate, cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Proven experience as a program/project manager
  • Awareness of information security best practices preferred
  • Experienced with Agile methodology
  • Ability to grasp technical concepts quickly, and summarize & document them clearly
