    Responsibilities

    The Position

     

    This position will be responsible for overall middle and back office operations functions for AIM, reporting to the SVP, Chief Investment Services Officer. The VP, Investment Operations will lead an operations team of 3 employees, responsible for ensuring the optimal delivery of operations services across all the products that Arch Investment Management (AIM) invests in. This position will partner with legal/compliance and performance teams as well as portfolio managers and service providers to deliver efficient and effective operational support to our firm and will oversee account management, cash processing, data and reconciliation functions and trade operations.

    Candidates must have recent prior experience managing a team of investment operations professionals for an asset manager, broker dealer or hedge fund and have deep knowledge of investment operations functions across the front, middle, and back office and both traditional and alternative investments, including understanding of processing requirements for complex asset types including futures, swaps, credit derivatives, private equity, and bank loans.

     

    Job Responsibilities

    • Oversee the Middle and Back office operations functions for AIM, coordinating closely with our Middle Office service provider, Custodian and Accounting services provider as well as other internal groups and teams
    • Ensure the timely processing of all cash movements, monitoring cash entries made by internal entities, investigating breaks, processing funding and distributions as needed
    • Ensure portfolio cash is maintained at the highest level and coordinate with the Performance team
    • Enable strong partner engagement in handling communication, alignment, reporting, and escalations across departments (Treasury, Corporate Finance, Internal Audit) to establish consistency and best practices
    • Demonstrate effective leadership in managing operations team, including resource planning, talent management, professional skills development, and performance management
    • Open and maintain broker and 3rd party accounts coordinating with Compliance for any legal / regulatory paperwork
    • Administer security and permissioning on applications used by and for investment management including, but not limited to, BNY Workbench, BNY ICO, Clearwater, Aladdin, Burgiss and Investran.
    • Oversee the Data / Reconciliation function which includes:
      • Data administration, normalization and data policy enforcement
      • Maintenance of data into the data warehouse
      • Reconciliation for cash, pricing and SMF
      • Oversight of the data quality from our RPA tool
    • Oversee the Trade Operations function which includes:
      • Trade fail issues and investigations
      • Third party exception management
      • Securities processing
      • Trust and LOC reconciliations
      • Corporate actions processing
    • Work on ad-hoc projects, contribute ideas and recommendations to improve process efficiencies and increase risk mitigation

    Qualifications

    Desired Skills

    • Deep knowledge of investment operations functions across the front, middle, and back office, and of traditional and alternative investments, including understanding of processing requirements for complex asset types including futures, swaps, credit derivatives, private equity, and bank loans
    • Strong understanding of global regulatory and tax issues and changes – primarily related to Europe, Bermuda, Asia and US
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability influence and build relationships at all levels of staff
    • Structured, disciplined approach to work, with attention to detail and ability to multi-task
    • Good interpersonal skills combined with willingness to listen and ability to manage conflict well
    • Ability to analyze requirements and problems and propose innovative, workable solutions
    • Flexible with the ability to meet changing requirements and priorities
    • Ability to react positively under pressure to meet tight deadlines
    • Demonstrate initiative with regard to increasing own knowledge and assuming additional responsibility
    • Strong management skills with experienced working with an outsource/offshore team
    • Knowledge of Aladdin, BNY Workbench necessary; Prefer experience with Clearwater and Burgiss
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel 

     

    Desired Education/Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting
    • 5+ years experience in investment operations for a large financial institution, investment manager, asset manager or similar (hedge fund)
    • 2-5 years of management experience
