    The Systems Engineer II architects solutions, acts as a subject matter expert, and provides thought leadership around their areas of expertise. The incumbent operates independently on moderately complex assignments involving the analysis of both business and regulatory requirements, as well as the analysis of the individual technical implementations to maximize benefit to the business. The Systems Engineer II establishes and cultivates successful relationships with our business units, technical implementation teams, management and vendors.

    Responsibilities

    1. Defines application and system configuration standards, works with commercial tools or writes custom scripts to validate and enforce them.
    2. Designs technical architecture for all core application services.
    3. Performs advanced technical analysis and recommends IT systems purchases and upgrades as needed.
    4. Identifies and recommends usage policies and operational guidelines.
    5. Provides project coordination and writes documentation for technology implementations.
    6. Tracks issues and business requests, and conducts research on broad-based solutions and new features that meet user needs.
    7. Provides second or third level technical support of core, business and MI applications.  Often requires management/coordination of outside vendors and internal subject matter experts.
    8. Investigates & diagnoses problems in assigned trouble tickets, as well as identifies and implements solutions.  Communicates resolution back to team members and business users.
    9. Writes scripts/programs to automate builds, application deployments, patching and maintenance, configuration updates, access provisioning, and other system administration functions.
    10. Builds systems per specifications to meet availability and performance targets as outlined in service level agreements with business owners.
    11. Reviews system performance data and makes suggestions to improve overall performance, as well as forecasts future system needs based on trends.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge & Skills:

    1. Enterprise knowledge of Windows 7 and 10 Desktop Operating Systems, Image Management, Application Packaging & Distribution, Mobile Device Management, performance monitoring tools in a large distributed environment.
    2. Enterprise knowledge of Active Directory / DHCP / DNS / Group Policy in a distributed environment.
    3. Enterprise knowledge of Windows Server 2008, 2012, 2016 / Desktop Security Patch Management and application deployment process.
    4. Expert knowledge of VMware Horizon View technology stack with Appvolume/Appstack, AppSense, AppDNA and UEM is required.
    5. Expert knowledge of industry deployment tools such as SCCM, LANDESK or any other enterprise application deployment and automation systems.
    6. Expert knowledge of Application Virtualization / Streaming solutions such as Microsoft Application Virtualization (SoftGrid / App-V), ThinApp, App-Volumes or Citrix XenApp for our virtual environment.
    7. Expert knowledge of automated application packaging and distribution methodologies and tools such as Flexera Admin studio suite or Wise Packaging Studio.
    8. Experience and knowledge of Windows Image management utilizing Microsoft Deployment Tool Kit (MDT), Task Sequencing and Hardware driver injection to create hardware images.
    9. Broad knowledge of how to install, configure, and patch  Microsoft and third-party desktop applications
    10. Proficiency in at least one, preferably several high-level scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Perl).
    11. Broad experience with system management and patching tools such as Solarwinds Patch Manager, SCCM, and WSUS
    12. Excellent analytical skills, trouble-shooting and problem solving ability.
    13. Customer service orientation and sense of urgency to maintain expected service levels.

     

    Education & Experience:

     

    Required knowledge & skills would typically be acquired through a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field plus 3+ years of related experience.
