    The Software Engineer III develops, implements, and maintains enterprise reporting solutions that enable business operations to realize company goals & objectives. The incumbent performs analysis, design, coding, debugging, testing, and support of enterprise reporting applications.  May be assigned to develop new reporting, analytics and data integration solutions, enhance/upgrade existing systems and provide production support.  He/she works independently on complex projects, receiving only general direction. Provides assistance and direction to less experienced peers.

    Responsibilities

    1. Works with the Agile Program Manager (APM), Digital Product Manager (DPM), and Business Systems Analyst (BSA) to accurately capture stakeholder requests and system specifications and translate them into engineering artifacts, which typically include design specifications, code, test scripts and test results.
    2. Perform analysis, design, development, and testing activities in support of enterprise reporting, Business Intelligence, and data analytics solutions across a wide range of business and operational functional areas
    3. Assist with the design, development, and deployment of next generation data warehouse and tools to support long term information delivery and data visualization needs.
    4. As part of Agile teams, completes software development work which includes application design, coding, code review and testing. Keeps Agile team and APM apprised of project status.
    5. Offers suggestions to stakeholders on devising effective and efficient approaches to achieve project and program objectives.
    6. Manages engineering risks by proactively tracking and communicating issues, and devising methods to mitigating them.
    7. Liaises with other project and program areas to coordinate interdependencies and resolve issues.
    8. Supports business units in the resolution of in-depth user questions and issues following production support process and SLA’s.
    9. Maintains a working knowledge of new technology and software engineering standards, practices and tools.
    10. Provides input to APM/DPM in creation of Product Roadmap, High Level Estimates
    11. Collaborates with IT management to define and develop documentation & engineering artifact standards, guidelines, processes, and templates.
    12. Design, build and manage multiple Cognos environments,
    13. Own the development and ongoing maintenance/enhancements of business reporting systems
    14. Design, develop, test and implement scheduled report deliveries, utilizing automated delivery capabilities.
    15. Write complex SQL queries to implement performant data integration and reporting solutions
    16. Focus on information/data quality by continuously evaluating data standards and data profiling
    17. Provide production support on a rotational basis

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    Knowledge & Skills:

    1. 5+ years of experience with Reporting, Business Intelligence, Data Management, and Data Analytics using market-leading tools, including standard and ad-hoc reporting, dashboards and visualization tools
    2. 5+ years of experience in designing, developing and implementing reporting solutions using Cognos with experience in designing dashboards leveraging visualization best practices.
    3. Minimum 3 years of Cognos version 10.x, and 6 months of Cognos version 11.x experience required. Experience with Cognos 10.x to 11.x upgrade is preferred.
    4. Minimum 2 years of experience in advanced Cognos configuration and administration
    5. 5+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server database versions 2012 or later
    6. Proficient in complex SQL scripting and working with very large data sets.
    7. Academic exposure to MongoDB, MongoDB BI connector is required. MongoDB production experience is preferred.
    8. Familiar with database design best practices
    9. Experience with either Microsoft PowerBI, Tableau, Qlikview, Microstrategy is preferred
    10. Detail oriented with ability to independently validate / triangulate data and analysis.
    11. Ability to prioritize multiple requests while completing deliverables on time. Self-motivated and can work independently. Ability to troubleshoot, track, and resolve day-to-day issues.
    12. Passion for excellence and continuous improvement.
    13. Knowledge of production support processes such as incident and problem management techniques.
    14. Knowledge and experience using agile software development principles, process and tools.

     

    Education & Experience:

     

    Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a Bachelors degree in computer information systems, computer science, business, or related field plus 5 to 7 years of related experience.
