    The Systems Engineer III designs, engineers, and operates automation platform technology solutions that are leveraged by all Arch MI product development teams. Additionally, this position architects solutions, acts as a subject matter expert, and provides thought leadership around the Platform-as-a-Service operating environment. The incumbent operates independently on complex assignments involving the analysis of both business and regulatory requirements, as well as the analysis of the individual technical implementations to maximize benefit to the business.  The Systems Engineer III establishes and cultivates highly successful relationships with our business units, technical implementation teams, management and vendors.

    1. Defines application and system configuration standards, works with commercial tools or writes custom scripts to validate and enforce them.
    2. Designs technical architecture for all core application services.
    3. Performs advanced technical analysis and recommends IT systems purchases and upgrades as needed.
    4. Identifies and recommends usage policies and operational guidelines.
    5. Provides project coordination and writes documentation for technology implementations.
    6. Tracks issues and business requests, and conducts research on broad-based solutions and new features that meet user needs.
    7. Provides second or third level technical support of core, business and MI applications. Often requires management/coordination of outside vendors and internal subject matter experts.
    8. Investigates & diagnoses problems in assigned trouble tickets, as well as identifies and implements solutions. Communicates resolution back to team members and business users.
    9. Writes scripts/programs to automate builds, application deployments, patching and maintenance, configuration updates, access provisioning, and other system administration functions.
    10. Builds systems per specifications to meet availability and performance targets as outlined in service level agreements with business owners.
    11. Reviews system performance data and makes suggestions to improve overall performance, as well as forecasts future system needs based on trends.


    Knowledge & Skills:

    1. Experience working with RedHat Openshift Infrastructure design, deployment, and operational support.
    2. Extensive knowledge of Linux Containers (Docker), Kubernetes, and deployment of containerized applications/microservices architectures
    3. Experience working with RedHat Enterprise Linux operating system
    4. Demonstrated skill in at least one configuration management/scripting technology (such as Ansible/Chef/Puppet)
    5. Experience administering Java-based application servers, especially RedHat Jboss and IBM Websphere
    6. Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Git, Jenkins, and Nexus
    7. Broad knowledge of systems and application monitoring tools such as Solarwinds Orion, AppDynamics, and Splunk
    8. Working knowledge of networking topics such as protocols, load balancers, firewalls, etc.
    9. Excellent analytical skills, trouble-shooting and problem solving ability.
    10. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    11. Good interpersonal skills to effectively work with fellow staff and internal customers.
    12. Attention to detail.
    13. Customer service orientation and sense of urgency to maintain expected service levels.


    Education & Experience:

    Required knowledge & skills would typically be acquired through a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field plus 5+ years of related experience. 


    Working Conditions/Environment & Physical Demands:

    1. Normal office environment
    2. Requires 24 hour on-call rotation
    3. Frequent after business hours and weekend work is required
