  • Overview

    This position is responsible for managing, and mentoring a group of finance professionals responsible for the management and financial reporting of a number of business units. This job has both a management component together with a great deal of hands on responsibilities for the day-to-day activities of the group.  This individual will have a high level of interaction with operating executives, officers, and other members of the finance teams throughout the organization.  This position will be required to improve and add value to the financial reporting process, manage timeframes and deliverables, while maintaining the highest levels of accuracy. This person will also be responsible for the training and performance evaluations for all of their direct reports.

    Responsibilities

    • Interacting with Underwriters and other internal and external customers on a regular basis regarding data requests and verification of data presented by the agent. .
    • Manage the following processes; Premium recognition and the accounting for loss activity, commissions, reserves, and all associated reinsurance.
    • Manage and review all applicable reinsurance processed within the units, including; both Treaty and Facultative on a Quota Share or Excess of Loss basis, many with deductibles.
    • Review and develop improvements on the Profit and Loss reporting, Balance Sheet Reconciliations, MD&A’s, and all other financial information used by the company in managing and analyzing our books of business.
    • Challenge and analyze current financial reporting procedures and formulate recommendations of improvement. Provide executable recommendations that improve operations and finance functions.
    • Design and document best practices for procedures implemented for financial reporting.
    • This position manages elements of both GAAP and Statutory Accounting, and interact with Internal and External Auditors, Sox Compliance personnel, and other compliance individuals, from both within and outside the company.
    • Responsible for managing the quarter closing process, and ensure deadlines are met
    • Drive our IT initiatives as they relate to our management and financial reporting activities.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION & SKILLS:

     

    • Degree in Accounting/Finance Required. MBA and/or CPA preferred.
    • 7 to 10 years’ Insurance/Reinsurance experience working in a management capacity in Accounting/Finance.
    • Formal knowledge of financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and ability to interpret relationships within financial results.
    • Exceptional work ethic, integrity and ability to work autonomously while effectively managing expectations.
    • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and analysis.
    • Has strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills.
    • The ability to adapt to new circumstances, information, and challenges, with a positive attitude.

     

     

    COMPUTER SKILLS: Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) Working knowledge of Great Plains General Ledger.
