    The Systems Engineer II architects solutions, acts as a subject matter expert, and provides thought leadership around their areas of expertise.  The incumbent operates independently on moderately complex assignments involving the analysis of both business and regulatory requirements, as well as the analysis of the individual technical implementations to maximize benefit to the business.  The Systems Engineer II establishes and cultivates successful relationships with our business units, technical implementation teams, management and vendors.

    Responsibilities

    1. Defines application and system configuration standards, works with commercial tools or writes custom scripts to validate and enforce them.
    2. Designs technical architecture for all core application services.
    3. Performs advanced technical analysis and recommends IT systems purchases and upgrades as needed.
    4. Identifies and recommends usage policies and operational guidelines.
    5. Provides project coordination and writes documentation for technology implementations.
    6. Tracks issues and business requests, and conducts research on broad-based solutions and new features that meet user needs.
    7. Provides second or third level technical support of core, business and MI applications. Often requires management/coordination of outside vendors and internal subject matter experts.
    8. Investigates & diagnoses problems in assigned trouble tickets, as well as identifies and implements solutions. Communicates resolution back to team members and business users.
    9. Writes scripts/programs to automate builds, application deployments, patching and maintenance, configuration updates, access provisioning, and other system administration functions.
    10. Builds systems per specifications to meet availability and performance targets as outlined in service level agreements with business owners.
    11. Reviews system performance data and makes suggestions to improve overall performance, as well as forecasts future system needs based on trends.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge & Skills:

    1. Strong understanding of desktop and application virtualization technologies such as VMWare Horizon/View, App-V, AppVolumes, and XenApp.
    2. Broad knowledge of application packaging techniques and tools for virtual desktops
    3. Broad knowledge of how to install, configure, and patch Microsoft and third-party desktop applications
    4. Knowledge in at least one, preferably several high-level scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Perl).
    5. Strong understanding of Windows desktop and server operating systems and VMware server virtualization
    6. Good understanding of system security, authentication, and hardening technologies such as Active Directory, ADLDS, LDAP, PKI, AV, DLP, email filtering, and encryption.
    7. Broad knowledge of systems and application monitoring tools such as Solarwinds Orion
    8. Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking
    9. Broad experience with system management and patching tools such as Solarwinds Patch Manager, SCCM, and WSUS
    10. Good analytical skills, trouble-shooting and problem solving ability.
    11. Good oral and written communication skills.
    12. Good interpersonal skills to effectively work with fellow staff and internal customers.
    13. Attention to detail.
    14. Customer service orientation and sense of urgency to maintain expected service levels.

     

    Education & Experience:

    Required knowledge & skills would typically be acquired through a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field plus 3+ years of related experience.
