    Responsibilities

    The Position

    The Senior Unix Engineer is responsible for the administration and operation of the firm’s Infrastructure. This role requires an in depth knowledge of RedHat Enterprise Linux on VMware and IBM AIX, and VIOS on Power hardware. The candidate will be part of the Delivery Services group and report directly to the Director, Compute and Systems Infrastructure. The Senior Unix Engineer must possess the ability to effectively plan, facilitate, and participate in meetings with employees from all organizational levels.

     

    Job Responsibilities

    • Engineer solutions for UNIX related projects handed off from the Plan Team
    • Deploy projects in a supportable and well documented for delivery to Operations Team
    • Provide SR escalation for RHEL and AIX in both private and public cloud spaces
    • Create processes and procedures to ensure managed environments maintain the highest levels of availability, security, and quality
    • Maintain and work to improve the Change Management system
    • Develop capacity forecasts for managed environments that are proactive and prevent problems prior to outages
    • Manage "crisis situations" to a satisfactory conclusion (even under stress)
    • Offer guidance on topics broadly related to information security risk and compliance
    • Serve as escalation point and provide troubleshooting guidance and direction in resolution of escalated issues and/or complex production, application or system problems

    Qualifications

    Desired Skills

    • Expert knowledge of RHEL 6 and RHEL 7
    • Strong AIX 7.1, VIOS, NIM, NPIV, Power Systems and HMC management skills
    • Understanding of platforms such as SolarWinds Orion, TripWire
    • Significant knowledge of RedHat Satellite, Kickstart, LVM, SELinux, sudo, McAfee as well as VMware, UCS, Networking, Storage, AD, and Azure
    • Configuration and operation experience with AD authentication for RHEL and AIX
    • Ability to cross-train team members as well as collaborate with offshore team
    • Experience with implementation of backup/restore and disaster and recovery strategies
    • Familiarity with security issues surrounding network computing and experience in implementation of security systems and controls
    • Extensive knowledge of shell scripting and process automation
    • Strong ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with complex priorities
    • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills

    Required Education/Experience 

    • Industry specific training or designation, a plus
    • Technical degree or certifications preferred, but not required
    • 8+ years’ of strong and varied UNIX experience
    • 5+ years’ relevant experience supporting a production environment or working for an Enterprise organization with Enterprise methodologies
    • 5 years’ of advanced RHEL VirtualMachines experience (SRM, Zerto, etc.), Power Systems architecture, and Enterprise Disaster Recovery implementation and management
