  • Job Responsibilities

    Responsible for the overall handling and disposition of a specific book of claims within the Specialty Property (E&S and Retail) lines of business. This includes the acceptance of loss notices, establishing needs for outside services (adjusters, experts, etc.) and making assignments accordingly, arranging for file set-up and overseeing the handling and settlement of those cases. This oversight includes monitoring developments, ensuring that required data is obtained to determine both the extent of liability and measurement of the loss consistent with the coverage afforded, ensuring timely payments, as appropriate, pursuit of subrogation and assisting finance / accounting and Cede Re, as may be necessary. Work closely with Property Claims SVP or VP or AVP, as well as underwriters, in the resolution of all loss handling and coverage issues, as well as capturing Lessons Learned and conveying these to underwriting and the Property Claims department as appropriate.


    Along with direct claim handling responsibilities, will be responsible for management and servicing of a designated book of Retail Property accounts.  This would include pre-binding establishment of claims handling protocols and any special handling needs for these accounts.  Additionally, post binding, will either directly handle account specific claim or otherwise oversee the account specific claims being handled by others to ensure customer servicing standards are met in accordance with pre-binding protocols.  This responsibility includes responding to other account specific customers servicing needs and requirements.


    May also assist in other loss handling and claims customer service responsibilities as may be assigned or directed by Property Claims SVP, VP or AVP as necessary.

    Required Skills/Experience

    • At least 10-15 years of commercial property claims handling experience, as an adjuster and/or company claims examiner
    • At least 5 years of reasonable claims experience closely related to claims customer servicing / account management.
    • Appropriate Adjuster Licensing in all states requiring licensing of company adjusters
    • Broad knowledge of the insurance industry and insurance claims operations
    • Strong working knowledge of commercial property claims, policy forms/coverage (both ISO based and manuscript policy forms) and applications
    • Broad experience and understanding of the insurance claims process, commercial property policy language and interpretation, thereof
    • Good understanding of legal concepts and procedures
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Strong mathematical capabilities, analytical and negotiating skills
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
