The Position

The Underwriting Specialist, Financial Services is responsible for the submission generation, underwriting and policy issuance of Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, General Partnership Liability, Bankers Professional Liability, Insurance Company Professional Liability, Fiduciary Liability, and Fidelity insurance for entities that meet the Financial Services account definition within the West Region.


The Financial Services department works with private and public companies, including many Fortune 500 firms.  Accounts include the following subcategories:


Commercial Banks

Investment Banks

Insurance / Reinsurance Companies

Hedge Funds

Private Equity Funds

Venture Capital Funds

Real Estate Funds

Mutual Funds

Registered Investment Advisers


Job Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and price products, to include financial and exposure analysis
  • Attendance at meetings with outside company management
  • Policy contract review and rating
  • Claims review
  • Binding of new and renewal accounts according to our underwriting philosophy and strategy
  • Service brokers and customers
  • Coaching and developing the more junior underwriters in the region

Required Skills/Experience

  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical, with a keen ability to think through issues
  • Solid understanding of financial statements
  • Strong customer-service focus
  • Able to organize and prioritize to meet multiple demands and commitments
  • Strong work ethic
  • Team player
  • Effective negotiation skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook


  • Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in Economics, Business, Finance or Accounting
  • 4 to 6 years of D&O/E&O insurance underwriting, preferably in the Financial Services segment
  • RPLU or CPCU designation preferred
