The Position

The Claims Division is seeking a Vice President to join the Healthcare Team.  In this role, responsibilities include but not limited to Supervise Healthcare Claims Examiners and develop their claims handling skills while providing quality assurance.  

Job Responsibilities

Specific duties include but not limited to the below:

  • Effectively manage performance issues, compensation, and claim financial metrics
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Claims and Underwriting Teams to communicate claims developments and trends
  • Perform audits of selected healthcare accounts
  • May also handle a reduced caseload of complex and/or high-exposure healthcare claims which would include:
    • Communicating with insureds
    • Conducting thorough coverage analyses
    • Working with defense counsel
    • Formulating and executing plans of action
    • Effectively analyzing exposures through liability and damages assessments
    • Setting timely and appropriate reserves
    • Negotiating the resolution of cases

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree; Juris Doctorate degree preferred
  • 10-15 years working experience in legal environment or the insurance industry managing processes for healthcare claims, litigation, and coverage
  • Demonstrated people management and development skills in a service/account management role
  • Detailed technical knowledge of general liability claims handling with the ability to advise Healthcare Claims Examiners on the handling of complex injury and coverage cases
  • Healthcare claims audit experience
  • Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal), evaluating, influencing, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills to effectively develop productive working relationships with internal/external peers and other professionals across organizational lines
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and present information in a clear and succinct manner
  • Ability to take part in active strategic discussions
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Willing and able to travel 25%
