The Position

The Sr. Actuary, Global Mortgage Group is responsible for portfolio management, financial reporting, as well as capital and risk management. The incumbent provides analytical support and is a key provider of business intelligence across Arch Capital Group Ltd.’s (ACGL) global mortgage segment. The incumbent works independently on most assignments under broad guidance from the Chief Actuary.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Produce quarterly transaction level profitability, ROE and embedded value analysis.
  2. Produce quarterly RDS stress testing analysis, working closely with business units to ensure accuracy of incoming data and a timely production schedule.
  3. Support loss reserving analyses across the Segment.
  4. Prepare management materials for quarterly underwriting meetings/business reviews.
  5. Continuously develop and improve Management Information reporting tools.
  6. Support Segment CFO on Segment level financial reporting and forecasting.
  7. Develop and maintain rating agency, regulatory and internal capital consumption frameworks across the Segment.
  8. Prepare analytics to support risk transfer solutions across the Segment.
  9. Lead Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) activities across the Segment.
  10. Support the production of Solvency II Technical Provisions and the development of ACGL’s internal capital model for the Segment.
  11. Keep abreast of mortgage lending industry developments including, regulatory, lenders, products and related economic issues.

Required Skills/Experience

Knowledge & Skills:

  1. Detailed knowledge of the mortgage industry and associated economic theory.
  2. Detailed knowledge of the global (re)insurance industry, including regulatory capital frameworks (e.g. Solvency II, RBC, PMIERs) and international accounting standards (e.g. US GAAP) and familiarity with current industry trends and developments.
  3. Strong understanding of the internal business processes of insurance companies.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft packages, database management, programming languages such as SAS, SQL or Visual Basic, and business intelligence platforms such as Power BI.
  5. In-depth understanding of actuarial principles and techniques.
  6. Strong mathematical, analytical, communication and time management skills.
  7. Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize demanding workload according to volume and urgency.

Education

Education & Experience:

Required knowledge & skills would typically be acquired through a Bachelor’s degree plus FIA/FCAS or equivalent actuarial designation and a minimum of 7 years of mortgage and/or non-life (re)insurance experience.

 

Working Conditions/Environment & Physical Demands:

  1. Normal office environment.
  2. Periodic travel required.
