The Position

Arch LMI Pty Ltd (“Arch LMI”) is an APRA-licensed provider of Lenders Mortgage Insurance (“LMI”).  Arch LMI is an Australian-domiciled subsidiary of Arch Capital Group Ltd (“ACGL”), a NASDAQ-listed global provider of insurance and reinsurance across a variety of product classes.


Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) is the senior executive responsible for oversight of strategic and operational aspects of Arch LMI. Areas of responsibility include Information Technology and Security, Policy Administration, QA and Loss mitigation and Claims, and Human Resources.  The incumbent sets corporate policies, establishes organizational goals, and develops short and long term strategies for achieving Arch LMI growth and profitability. Guided by the corporate objectives and Business Plan, the COO is responsible for providing the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems are in place to effectively maintain and grow the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Identifies, develops and executes operational strategies that align with corporate priorities and mission to achieve business objectives.
  2. Provides day-to-day leadership and management to direct reports that promotes the mission and core values of Arch LMI.
  3. Interacts with Lenders, key vendors and outsource providers, and Regulators on critical matters related to operations, Master Policy coverage, loss mitigation and technology.
  4. An invited member of the Arch LMI Board Remuneration Committee.
  5. Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all internal processes. Ensures timely, accurate and complete reporting on operating efficiencies and conditions and recommends plans, policies and/or structural changes to facilitate the achievement of annual corporate goals as set out in the Business Plan.
  6. Spearheads the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
  7. Collaborates with the Senior Management team to develop, implement and improve plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate company objectives.
  8. Motivates and leads a high performance team; attracts recruits and retains required members of the team not currently in place; provides mentoring to develop future leaders within the Company.
  9. Keeps abreast of industry/market trends and new developments in mortgage lending through networking, board and industry membership group participation and community involvement.
  10. Collaborates closely with leadership in other Arch entities to drive efficiencies across markets, share knowledge and best practices.
  11. Deputize for the CEO, as required.

Required Skills/Experience

Knowledge & Skills:

  1. Extensive knowledge of banking, mortgage lending and lenders mortgage insurance (“LMI”) industry.
  2. Excellent business judgment and strategic decision making skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across organizational structures to accomplish long term, strategic results.
  4. Proven experience in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures.
  5. Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Ability to manage complex projects and teams.
  7. Proven leadership and management skills


Education & Experience:

Required knowledge & skills typically acquired through an MBA and 15+ years of related experience.

Working Conditions/Environment & Physical Demands:

  1. Normal office environment
  2. Some travel required
